Your Majesty,

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the people of Ashby de la Zouch learned of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

His support for you has been a source of inspiration and a role model for life in public service for many years.

We sincerely wish that expressions of deep esteem and gratitude of our nation, for a life so unselfishly given in supporting you, may act as great comfort and consolation at this time.

An on-line book has been opened at Ashby de la Zouch, to enable the townspeople to express their condolences at this time.

I have the honour to be, Madam, your most humble and obedient servant,

Councillor Graham Allman

Mayor of Ashby de la Zouch.
