Leicester Road 0-1 Ashby Ivanhoe FC

•Ivanhoe ended Leicester Road's unbeaten record with victory

  • A Sam Grouse goal proved enough to deservedly take home the points

•Goalkeeper Tom Dyche is Ashby's star man in victory

Ashby arrived at The Greene King Stadium in Hinckley last Saturday as clear underdogs with the home side looking to continue their great run of form which had seen them unbeaten in the league since early September.

The first half saw Leicester Road control much of the game, as they patiently moved the ball across their defence looking for a breakthrough but a determined Ashby XI made it hard for the hosts to break them down.

On 22 minutes Ashby Goalkeeper Tom Dyche had to make a brilliant save to top the ball over the bar to keep it to nil.

Ashby absorbed late Leicester Road pressure and held on to deservedly go in level at the break.

Ivanhoe came out for the second half and showed the same character as they had in the first and started to cause the hosts problems when they attacked.

The away side got the goal they deserved when Sam Grouse latched onto the end of a ball over the top to emphatically lob the opposition goalkeeper from 25 yards to give Ashby the lead in the 70th minute.

Leicester Road cranked up the pressure but a resilient Ashby team battled back and held firm to see the game through.

The young Ashby side showed real grit and determination to go away from home to the league run away leaders and take the 3 points and there were plenty of candidates to take the Man of The Match award, but after producing numerous saves and keeping a clean sheet it was awarded to Dyche.

Attendance: 60; Starting XI: Dyche, Conkay, Holmes, Rowell, Stewart, Minshull, Blair-Park, Robinson, Donaghy, S.Grouse, J Neal
