Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club's planning application for further ground improvements must go back before councillors again next month after what has been described as 'human error'.

The club thought they had been given permission to go ahead with plans to provide a new roof for the clubhouse, along with new changing room and ancillary works to meet ground grading requirements.

But now Ashby Nub News has been told the application will go before North West Leicestershire District Council's planning committee again next month.

The meeting two weeks ago saw two votes held among the councillors present.

First, they voted on a motion to defer a decision on the application due to Ivanhoe already having planning permission for other work on new pitches and a larger car park area, which has yet to start.

But it appeared at first that the motion was defeated, and after that, councillors voted to grant permission to the club.

That allowed Ivanhoe officials to put together a 15-month timescale for the work - with the clubhouse improvements delayed until 2025.

The first stage was due to have been completed by the end of March.

But it has now emerged that there was a miscount during the vote to defer a decision - which means the application has to be heard once more in two weeks' time.

There did appear to be some confusion at time.

But it is understood that the vote to defer should have seen a decision delayed until the next planning committee meeting.

It was mistakenly announced on the night that the application had been given the green light.

Since then, the council has been looking into the legal ramifications of calling it back in after supposedly granting planning permission.

But it has now been decided to take the application back before councillors on Tuesday, March 5.

North West Leicestershire District Council had apologised to the football club, but blamed the mix-up on human error.

The council has accepted this has caused the club some inconvenience, with builders ready to start work at the NFU Ground in Lower Packington Road.
