Ashby Ivanhoe FC's Boxing Day match with Chelmsley Town has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Midland Football League Division One Fixture had a scheduled 3pm kick off at the club's NFU ground in Lower Packington Road with a bigger than usual crowd expected.

But more rain this morning put paid to any chances of the game going ahead.

The club had issued an appeal for volunteers to help fork the playing surface last weekend.

But a decision was made to postpone the game following a 10am pitch inspection this morning.

Club official Bryan Smith said: "The match was called off despite many volunteer hours trying to prepare the pitch."
