Ashby Ivanhoe Chairman Pays Tribute To Dad Who Passed Away Last Weekend
Ashby Ivanhoe FC chairman Stuart Bonser sadly lost his father Barry last weekend.
Stuart has written the following tribute to him.
"My dad was born in Coalville in June, 1939 at his parents house on Margaret Street, but he moved to Ashby with the love of his life, Valerie Stanyard where they bought their first and only house on Willowbrook Close where they lived for the last 54 years
"They got married in November 1966 at the Methodist chapel on Burton Road, Ashby. He had one sister Irene.
"An HGV driver, he also loved motorbike racing and owned and rode motorcycles right up to when he was 73 until his stroke forced him to hang up his helmet. He loved spending time on holiday with his family and his favourite hotel became the Bahia Principe in Tenerife.
"After his stroke he still made time to visit his daughter, Samantha, in Paxos, Greece, along with his wife Val and enjoyed a night cap in Harbour lights.
"His eldest son, Lee followed in his footsteps as a lorry driver. My dad became a dedicated and committed father as I grew up playing football for Marlborough Rovers and was even the linesman for the team too whilst my mum cheered me on from the side.
"My dad was a hard working, genuine, kind, thoughtful family man. Sadly he passed away on Sunday 6th December but was blessed to have his family around him at home.
"His wife, Valerie became his full time carer after his stroke and, if medals were to be given out in the New Year's honours list, then she should be given one as she devoted her care and love and fought his corner to keep him at home and cared for. My mum's love and commitment for my dad was unconditional and she sacrificed a lot to care for him and she is a truly amazing lady.
"The funeral will be taking place at Bretby on Friday 18th December at 12.45 but due to current COVID restrictions the number is limited to 30.
"But there will be the opportunity to say a farewell to Barry as he leaves his home on Willowbrook Close and the family would welcome you to to wave Barry a fond farewell around 11.45am.
"The family would like to pay tribute to the team at LOROS who, under Dr Powell, provided Barry and the family with unbelievable support and care over the last 12 months and they would like to repay their gratitude by inviting friends and family to donate to the fundraising page that has been set up in memory of Barry with all proceeds going To LOROS- the link to follow is HERE.
