Ashby will host its first Pride event this July with 10 entertainment venues across the town taking part.

It will take place on Saturday, July 1, and is on the 51st anniversary of the UK's first Pride event in 1972.

More details are expected over the next few weeks,

But Ashby Pride has this evening (Friday) announced the date and an outline of what to expect.

A release says: "It is with great pleasure that we can now announce the organisation of Ashby de la Zouch's first ever Pride event for 2023

"Ashby pride will take place on Saturday, July 1, beginning at 12 noon, then continuing throughout the day and into the evening.

"We are so proud that the event will be taking place across 10 different entertainment venues within the town, each hosting their own special Pride themed event.

"More details surrounding the day's entertainment schedule will follow in the coming weeks, make sure you follow their social media accounts to stay up-to-date.

"Pride is deep-rooted in history as the fight for LGBTQ+ rights and equality.

"The first ever Pride event in the UK took place in London on July 1, 1972, three years after the Stonewall Inn riots in the USA, which saw the birth of the Pride movement.

"Today, Pride takes many different forms across the world, with this year seeing over 900 events globally.

"We cannot wait to bring this wonderful celebration into our town, 51 years after the UK's first Pride.

"We would encourage everyone to embrace the event, in any way you can, and show your support for our local LGBTQ+ community. We all love Ashby, so let's love everyone."
