A member of the team at an Ashby opticians will shave her head to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support after a friend was diagnosed with cancer.

Nicola Lappin, in-store trainer at Specsavers, will have her locks chopped in the store on Market Street on Saturday, January 29, at 5pm.

The shave will be carried out by her sister-in-law, Sarah Gilbert, who works at Specsavers head office.

After finding out that her close friend had been diagnosed just before Christmas, Nicola wanted to show her support.

She said: "A very very close and dear friend of mine has been diagnosed with cancer last week.

"Over the years he's really been there for me and I feel like this is such a small thing I can do to help as he fights the disease.

"I know Macmillan do such an amazing job of helping people so I'm hoping to raise as much money as I can and I'd be grateful for any donation, no matter how small.

"If I can help keep their support for people fighting it's a small sacrifice to make."

Kuljinder Bains, store director at Specsavers Ashby, added: "We're all really proud of Nicola for supporting her friend in this way.

"It's a testament to her that she's willing to do it and we're behind her all the way.

"We've made a donation on behalf of the store and hope that she reaches her target of £500."
