A new road junction on the A511 Ashby bypass could be redesigned after drivers complained it could cause accidents.

A statement issued to Ashby Nub News says that the matter is being assessed and 'the required alterations' will be made following an audit.

As part of the new Money Hill housing development, a new roundabout was built to service the planned houses.

Until last week, the left hand lane of the approach to the junction from Nottingham Road, and the exit from Resolution Road, was coned off.

But when it was opened, motorists in that lane suddenly found themselves being directed to the proposed - and as yet unopened - road to the estate.

That has resulted in drivers having to quickly change lanes to remain on the A511.

The Ashby de la Zouch Community Facebook page has received a number of posts complaining about the junction.

But the situation has not gone un-noticed by the estate developers who issued a joint statement yesterday (Friday).

A spokesperson for the consortium partners, Bloor Homes and Taylor Wimpey said: "The junction design has been approved by Leicestershire County Council and the works have been inspected and approved.

"We are aware of the local residents' concerns regarding the new junction on the A511 and recently requested a full junction road safety audit.

"We are working closely with Leicestershire County Council Highways in assessing the matter and once we have received the outcome of audit, we will make the required alterations."

But one post on the Ashby de la Zouch Community page says: "There are NO signs about this stupid layout, no proper road markings.

"So what we get, is LOADS of people travelling in the left lane and suddenly trying to merge to the right lane. There is literally accident to happen.

"Why? What was the purpose of such a road layout?"

Another posted: "I ended up doing the loop of stupidity because I was in the wrong lane. There was another car in front and one behind me. That road has been a mess since they started it all."
