An Ashby gym owner is returning to Conkers for a gig with his latest band Theatre of Floyd.

Simon Pellecchia is well known for playing with U2UK - a tribute to the Irish rockers.

But now he has a gig lined up at the Moira-based visitor attraction on Sunday, May 25.

As the name suggests, Theatre of Floyd pays tribute to rock legends Pink Floyd.

Simon, who runs Fitness Republic in Market Street, explained that this is not the end for U2UK - as they will also be appearing at Conkers later this year.

But the Floyd tribute is something he and other band members have wanted to do for a couple of years.

He told Ashby Nub News: "They're two separate bands, but there are three of us in Theatre of Floyd - I'm on drums now and there are 11 of us in all with the saxophone player. It's huge really.

"We always used to listen to and have been into Pink Floyd - and we used to listen to on the way home from U2UK gigs

"And we always said we'd love to do a Pink Floyd band as well, looking to find a similar people and interested musicians to try and make it sound.

"That was difficult, and it's been a few years to get things together. We did our first gig last week in Lancaster - and it was awesome, awesome.

"There are still some edges to fine tune but, hopefully, the time we get to Conkers, we should be close to what we want.

"It's more the video and visual side of it, not the music. But I'm loving it, because we kind of sound like 70s Floyd."

Simon Pellecchia also plays guitar with U2:UK

Simon says that Floyd fans will not be disappointed as they will be playing all the big songs.

Another Brick in the Wall, Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb all feature, as well as tracks from classic albums such as Dark Side of the Moon, Animals and some of their early 80s material.

Simon added: "We're particularly looking forward to bringing the band to `Conkers - it's a great outdoor venue, right up there with my favourites.

"But I always get a little bit nervous there because I know more people."
