An Ashby footpath is to be closed off for up to six months - starting on June 1- while building work takes place.

House builder Crest Nicholson has applied for the closure for the former Arla Dairy site construction work on Smisby Road where a new estate is taking shape.

The section of path runs from behind Northfields, off Smisby Road, to Isaac Grove on the Ivanhoe Fields estate.

This joins up with that path that eventually leads to Hood Park to the south, and Cliftonthorpe Meadows to the north.

And it could be Christmas before it is open again.

Leicestershire County Council says there will be a temporary closure of the footpath for up to six months from June 1.
