Ashby: Electric charging points coming to Measham car park
Drivers of electric vehicles will soon be able to charge in Measham thanks to four brand-new charging points in a council-owned car park.
The spaces in the village's Peggs Close car park are the latest points installed by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) as part of its Zero Carbon Roadmap.
The installation in the summer will be part-funded by a £25,600 grant from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), with support from the Energy Saving Trust (EST).
The new charging points will join the following already introduced by the council across the district:
- Vicarage Street, Whitwick
- The Green, Thringstone
- Clapgun Street, Castle Donington
- North Street, Ashby-de-la-Zouch
- Margaret Street, Coalville
Additional charging points have also been installed at the council's new Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre off the A511 Stephenson Way.
Users of the electric charging points in NWLDC's car parks are charged per kilowatt hour of charging. Those using car parks that charge a parking fee must also pay for their stay.
Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: "As part of our Zero Carbon targets we're making greener choices for the district and hope to encourage others to look at how they too can reduce emissions.
"Our network of charging points is growing across the district and helping to fuel the demand for electric cars locally, in turn leading to more charging points and greener roads.
"The grant funding and support from OZEV and the Energy Saving Trust is a great help on our Zero Carbon journey."
