An Ashby dental practice has been given permission to extend its premises after being given the go-ahead by North West Leicestershire District Council.

The surgery, at 68, Tamworth Road, applied for a change of use of a first floor flat to a dental practice, the demolition of the existing single storey rear extension and removal of fire stairs.

As well as that, there would be a replacement single storey rear extension to the existing dental practice with ramp access, alterations to existing windows and doors and associated alterations to parking.

The building is occupied by the Rotherholme Dental Practice and the applicant is Mr Athwal.

A district council officer's report says: "The proposals would involve the change of use of the first floor flat to extend the practice to ground and first floor level.

"Given that these works would largely be limited to internal alterations only, no concerns are raised in relation to this element of the proposal."

However, there were some concerns from local residents about the effect the work would have on the neighbourhood.

The officer's report continues: "Throughout the course of the application, comments have been received citing concerns that regarding noise impacts resulting from the change of use and request for soundproofing measures to be conditioned as part of any decision on the application.

"Additionally, the Local Planning Authority has received a request for construction works to being restricted to no earlier than 8:30am and to finish by 6pm Monday-Friday - and for there to be no construction on weekends.

"As part of the consultation process for the application, the Council's Environmental Protection Team have been consulted.

"They have confirmed that they have no objections subject to the imposition of a condition to limit construction hours.

"In addition, following comments raised by neighbouring occupants, it was recommended that a noise insulation scheme is submitted and agreed in writing by the Local Planning Authority before implementation."
