Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has raised no objections to the opening of a new Domino's Pizza outlet in Market Street - but raised concerns over deliveries leaving the building, along with excess noise.

Councillors also voiced concerns the town currently has too many hot food takeaways.

The committee said that deliveries should operate from the rear of the building and that any extractor fans should not be operational during the early hours of the morning.

A planning application to open a Domino's branch in the former Santander Bank building in Ashby was made last month.

On Monday night, the scheme came before the Town Council's planning committee.

But the fact that there are a number of similar businesses in Ashby - with Zamani's restaurant just a few doors away - was not lost on committee members.

Cllr Mary Tuckey said: "We have an awful lot of hot food takeaways in Ashby. That's what I think."

Cllr Roger Bayliss added: "I agree with everybody else, we have plenty of takeaways."

But committee chairman Cllr Jim Hoult said: "By the same token, I'd rather see the building put to use than lie empty."

Committee members could not object on the grounds of it being another takeaway.

Cllr Barbara Kneale asked about the parking situation the new outlet might cause.

"What impact is it going to have on the limited parking in the town," she said.

Cllr Geraint Thomas said he was concerned about the residents living above the unit.

He added: 'I'm more concerned about the external works, there are people living above the bookshop, Boots and WH Smith."

Cllr Bayliss said: "If extractor fans are being used, then there has to be a shut off time when operations need to stop."

Cllr Mike Ball said that the committee should not object to the plans, as long as the delivery service is operated from the rear of the building, and not on to Market Street.

The final go-head for the branch will be decided when the plans go before North West Leicestershire District Council's planners.
