A call has been made for new signage in South Street, making it clear a one-way system is in operation.

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council discussed the issue at last week's meeting of its planning committee, following instances of motorists driving the wrong way - or simply ignoring the no entry notices.

Councillors agreed that Leicestershire County Council should be contacted to see if the signage can be improved.

But it was also pointed out that there should be signs at the Town Council's car park at Legion House, to remind drivers that it is a right-turn only when exiting into South Street.

Cllr Murrae Blair-Park commented that the one-way notices was were 'very light' along South Street - and that it would benefit from more robust signage.

But Cllr Rita Manning added that there were many drivers who deliberately chose to drive up South Street.

Cllr Chris Smith proposed that the Town Council writes to the County Council to ask what additional signage it can provide.

It was resolved that the Town Council contacts the County Council - and that the Town Council erects a sign on its own car park exit, reminding visitors that it is right turn only.
