Ashby's community choir, Concordia, is hosting a taster singing day next month.

It will be for anyone who is curious about singing in a choir.

The session is open to singers of any ability and will be held on Saturday, August 31, at Ashby Baptist Church, Brook Street, from 11am-3pm.

Concordia's Musical Director, Tom Stanyard, said: "This is a low-pressure, light-hearted event that will provide you with an insight into the way your voice works, and how to sing effectively. It will also explore singing in harmony as part of a mixed-voice choir.

"In between the singing there will be plenty of time for tea, cakes and conversation.

"We've got a real mixture of members who go from seasoned performers, people who sang at school or in a church choir and have decided to give it another go, to people who had never sung in a group before and wanted to try it out - and ended up loving it! Whichever category you fall into, you'll be made very welcome.

"There's no obligation to join the choir full time, so anyone can attend just for the session on the 31st - but we're confident you'll enjoy it so much you'll want to come back for more!"

Concordia was formed in 2009 and performs around four concerts a year in Ashby and the local area, with a varied repertoire ranging from Classical to Musicals.

At their last concert they performed with a jazz quartet and are about to start working on a Mozart mass.

Anyone interested in the choir, taster day or with other questions should contact: [email protected] or call Keith on 07811 973268.
