Ashby charity bookshop celebrates World Book Day
By Grace Kennington 4th Mar 2026
The St Giles Hospice bookshop in Ashby is celebrating World Book Day this week, hoping to encourage young bookworms to read more with an offer in-store.
The local St Giles bookshops in Ashby, Burton, Lichfield and Mere Green will be offering three children's books for the price of two from Thursday 5 to Saturday 7 March, encouraging families to pop into the shops, discover new stories and explore the great benefits reading can have for children.
Young visitors who visit the shop dressed as their favourite book character will also receive a small sweet treat from shop teams.
This initiative follows the success of last year's World Book Day, which saw lots of children visiting the shop in their costumes and sharing about their favourite books and enthusiasm for reading.

Nicola Brannen-Mott, Deputy Head of Retail at St Giles Hospice, said: 'Last year it was wonderful to see so many children excited about books and eager to try something new. We loved seeing the creativity in their outfits and hearing about their favourite characters.
'World Book Day is a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading and help make books accessible to families in our community. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone again this year.'
Aside from encouraging children to explore the magic of reading for the three-for-two offer, all the funds raised by St Giles Hospice bookshops goes directly to providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care free of charge for people with terminal illnesses across Staffordshire, North Birmingham and the surrounding area.
