North West Leicestershire District Council has given a glimpse behind the scenes of the new-look Ashby Lido at Hood Park Leisure Centre.

The pool is due to be officially re-opened on May 29 following a refurbishment by leisure centre owners Everyone Active who work with the District Council.

But Paul Sanders, Head of Community Services at North West Leicestershire District Council, tweeted some photos of the work that has been carried out.

And that includes an 'Ashby By The Sea!' theme with a banner showing those words next to the pool.

Another photo shows the pool area - although there is no water in there at the moment.

Paul accompanied the photos with the message: "Ashby by the Sea coming soon! Preparations are well on the way for 29th May opening."

Ashby Lido set for Spring re-opening.

Everyone Active describes the Lido like this on its website: "Hood Park Leisure Centre features the only lido in Leicestershire.

"Unfortunately, due to the effect of COVID-19, the outdoor pool was not open for the 2020 season. The pool will re-open in May 2021.

"Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to welcoming you back next year.

"This fantastic facility is the perfect place to while away the summer months.

"Whether you want to enjoy the cooling water or relax by the poolside, it's ideal for everyone, especially children and families."

Early indications, as presented to Ashby de la Zouch Town Council earlier this year, suggested Everyone Active want to introduce a 'seaside experience' element to the Lido with the introduction of a children's sandpit.

The pool was drained, scrubbed and jet washed between January and February.

Then, building works and the installation of a sand pit took place.

Painting and decorating, and the installation of disabled access has gone ahead since.
