Ashby Beacon Lighting to take place on Thursday evening to mark VE Day 80

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council will be holding a service to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday evening.

The council says that anyone who wishes to attend the service should gather at St Helen's Church in Ashby at 9pm.

The service will be held outdoors and will begin at 9.15pm prompt.

It will culminate with a beacon lighting at 9.30pm.

The council says it will live stream the event.

Ashby's ceremony will be one of a number of events to be staged across the country to commemorate the historic day.
