A team of cyclists from Ashby and Swadlincote are preparing to cover 150 miles in a day to raise money for the Mind charity.

They will get on their bikes in Albert Village on Saturday (July 8) at around 4am, and travel to the Welsh border, the other side of Shrewsbury, before circling back.

It means around a 14 hour day in the saddle - and the riders admits it is the furthest any of them has travelled on a bike in one day.

They have created a Just Giving page HERE, and set out the reasons behind the ride.

Their message reads: "Our chosen charity this year will be Burton & District Mind.

The team have raised around £15,000 for charity in recent years

"We know how important mental health is and how it can affect people in so many different ways.

"We supported Mind last year and we want to continue to encourage people to speak up about their struggles.

"So, we've decided to continue supporting Mind but chose to keep it within the local community this time round.

"We all agreed that we do something where we can end close to home so more of our friends and family can join in on the celebrations at the finish line.

"The finish line venue to be confirmed. But it will be local so it would be great to see as many faces there as possible, to see us over the line!

"We try to push ourselves further with each challenge we do, and this year is no different.

"We started this two years ago and we want to continue doing our bit in raising as much funds for our chosen charities for many more years to come."

Ashby-based team member Dec Cooper, who also has connections with the Sands football club, added: "We've been training since for this January, when it was minus three or raining.

"We'll have some regular stops planned, but it won't be for long.

"Mind was picked because we want to do something that raises money locally."

The group have set a target of £4,000 and are already close to that.

But Dec added: "This is the first year I've been on it, but if you add up all the money the team have raised from previous events, then it mounts up to about £15,000.

"It's tallying up really well."
