Armed Police Called To Street In Moira After Report Of Gunshot

Armed police were called out to Blackfordby Lane in Moira after reports damage had been caused to a car by gunfire.

A motorist said they had been driving at the time and called police.

The driver reported hearing a gunshot after damage had been caused to a wing mirror.

At this stage, armed officers were sent out to the Norris Hill area and a search was carried out.

But no evidence of a firearm was discovered.

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman told Ashby Nub News: "Police received a call at around 3.45pm yesterday (24 June) from the area of Blackfordby Lane, Moira.

"The caller, who had been driving, reported damage to their wing mirror and heard what they described as a gunshot.

"In the interest of public and officer safety, armed officers were deployed to attend.

"A search was carried out in the surrounding area but no evidence of a firearm discharge was found.

"No further calls were received of similar nature. The call was made with good intent."
