The Armed Forces Veterans' Breakfast Club - founded by the Vice Chairman John Lynn of the Ashby branch of the RBL - held its first breakfast at the White Hart in Market Street on Saturday.

Valerie Gale the chairman of the local branch of RBL was pleased to see veterans of the RAF, Navy and Army join them for a substantial breakfast.

Twenty eight veterans were joined by local MP Mr Andrew Bridgen and Ashby's Mayor Cllr Rita Manning.

This is an informal event to give veterans the chance to meet and have 'banter' with like-minded people .

Mr Bridgen, MP for North West Leicestershire, said: "It's a great forum for veterans to get together for mutual support, I'm happy to support whenever I can."

Cllr Manning added: "I have had the opportunity to meet some of our veterans at various events in Ashby and it was an honour for me and my husband to be included in their first breakfast event.

"We were made to feel very welcome and we wish them all the best for their future events.

"Covid has been hard on everyone and, sometimes, all we need is the chance to share our thoughts and problems with our peers."

The Armed Forces Veterans' Breakfast Club will be held monthly on the fourth Saturday at 9am at the White Hart in Ashby.
