An 80-year-old Ashby woman was deliberately coughed into her face by a teenage girl as her friend laughed about it.

The incident happened in Hood Park at a time when the country is in full lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The woman, who lives nearby, was out for a walk.

Without warning, the girls approached the elderly lady and coughed in her face before blowing in her direction.

A number of people stopped to help her but the girls quickly disappeared.

The woman's son, Martyn Gadsby, described the incident and wants to warn other people this is happening

Martyn told Ashby Nub News: "The girls were treating this as some sort of joke," he said.

"One of them coughed into her face and they both giggled about it before walking away.

"She was in Hood Park where you come into it from Smisby Road.

"The girls were about 13 or 14, as they got to her they coughed and blew in her face.

"My mother called me about it and she's understandably shaken up, I'm very angry about it.

"She wasn't wearing a mask as she was outside, she normally would in the shops.

"At the moment, she's still waiting for a vaccine.

"What I want to do is let people know this is happening so that, hopefully, they don't do it again.

"And I hope we can embarrass the girls who did it.

"We need to stop this now."

It happened at time when lockdown rules forbid close contact with other households along with a Government message to stay at home when possible.

However, daily exercise is permitted the Hood Park is used by many people to get a breath of fresh air during the day.

Martyn added: "The message is for people to be sensible.

"Then you get this from some carefree teenagers.

"Parents need to know this is happening.

"I'm not blaming the parents, but the girls are acting like this.

"The one girl thought she was being big while the other laughed along."

The lady has since contacted her doctor following the incident.

Currently, the over-80s age group are the first group of people to be vaccinated as they are among the most vulnerable.
