Amanda Hack MP celebrates International Women's Day by bringing together women making a difference locally
By Grace Kennington 9th Mar 2026
Amanda Hack, MP for North West Leicestershire, bought together women from across the constituency to discuss how women are making change in our community.
Sunday 8 March marked International Women's Day, an annual celebration of the progress women's rights have made throughout history, as well as calling to attention ongoing campaigns to governments across the world for equal pay and education, access to safe and non-biased health care and justice for victims of gender-based violence.
Amanda Hack invited women from a variety of backgrounds, from volunteers and community group organisers to district councillors and headteachers from local primary schools, to The Book Nook Café in Coalville.
In a post on social media, Amanda Hack said: 'In celebration of International Women's Day, it was a privilege to bring together a room full of incredible women on Friday.
'These are women who both inspire and challenge me every day, who do so much for our area and really are the glue that binds our community together. From educators to local business owners to local community leaders and local representatives. Women who are standing up in our community and getting involved.
'We spoke about how language can contribute to little micro aggressions women face daily. How girls at school are "bossy" but boys are " assertive".
'We empowered each other, we listened, we gave advice, we shared our stories.
'Although there have been over 17,000 MPs elected to parliament, I'm only the 624th woman - part of what drives me is to inspire the next generation of women in politics.
'We must continue to lift each other up, to walk with confidence, and to keep showing up for ourselves.'
