A stunning strike from Chris Acott and Sam Grouse's penalty gave Ashby three points against an in-form Coventry Copsewood on Tuesday.

Acott, who has been vital for Ivanhoe this season, saw his strike loop into the corner after letting fly from outside of the penalty area.

The goal was his fourth of the season, a campaign in which he has been asked to play at left-back and alongside Grouse up front, as well as on both flanks.

After taking the lead on the half hour mark, Ashby were comfortable throughout the match - 'keeper Tommy Dyche only being tested by Charlie Gordon in the second half, who forced him to turn a shot past the post from distance.

His quiet night did not resemble the evening of his opposite number Olly Manuel, who pulled off numerous high-level saves to keep his side in the match.

He prevented Will Groocock from getting on the scoresheet twice from close range, but bettered those efforts late in the match when he sensationally got a fingertip on Sam Grouse's low strike, turning it onto the post.

Grouse was not to be denied on his return from suspension, however.

As the game reached its final stages, Will Robson's standing leg was caught by the Copsewood defender as he looked to get a shot off.

Grouse stepped up from the spot and slotted past Manuel, taking his tally up to 13 for the season and wrapping up the points for Ashby.

''We dug in against a good side, but we have to start taking our chances. In football that'll bite you,'' commented assistant manager Pete Dunn following the match.

Ivanhoe are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Coton Green.

Andy Gray's side will be out for revenge after being beaten by the same opponents last month.
