A42 closed near Ashby after lorry catches fire: Driver's actions prevent worse damage

The A42 near Ashby was closed this morning due to a lorry fire - causing a three mile tailback of traffic,
Photos from the Coalville fire crew show the extent of the blaze which happened shortly after 9am.
Three crews were called out to the fire - but no casualties were reported.
And Coalville Fire Station reported that the driver had detached his cab from the rest of the truck which was ablaze.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue said: " Service Vehicles Attended, one from Coalville, one from Tamworth and the water carrier from Loughborough
"There were multiple calls received to a lorry involved in fire.
"One articulated lorry trailer fully involved in the fire.
"Cab of the lorry removed from the trailer.
"A42 westbound lanes closed. large smoke plume visible.
"Two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one ladder and one water carried in use.
"A42 eastbound carriageway still live.
"No casualties. Fire service and Highways in attendance."
Natonal Highways East Midands posted an update on social media which read: The A42 is blocked southbound between the M1 and the A511 near Ashby-de-la-Zouch due to a trailer fire.
"Leicestershire Fire and Rescue crews are at the scene.
"There is approximately three miles of congestion on the approach to the incident."
Coalville Fire Station tweeted: Currently tackling a large lorry fire on the A4A42 westbound between junction 14-13 closed.
"Expect delays!! Lorry driver detached the cab before the fire spread and is fit and well!"
