Christmas is just around the corner. The Mayor of Ashby, Councillor Damilola Ojuri, shares a Christmas message, reflecting on her time in the role.

It has been one of the greatest honours of my life to serve as Mayor of Ashby de la Zouch. I am always grateful for the opportunity to represent our wonderful town. 

Since May 2025 to date, I have attended over 50 engagements and events in my capacity as Mayor. It has been a privilege to be given the platform to express myself and to give back to Ashby de la Zouch and beyond. 

I have especially enjoyed working with young people, particularly around their future careers. Young people are our future, and they deserve the very best support and encouragement. 

As we approach the new year, I look forward to many more engagements and to continuing to support both Ashby de la Zouch and Blackfordby in my role as Mayor.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed my first few months in office, I could not have attended so many events so diligently without the incredible support of the Town Council and all Town Councillors, as well as my family and friends.

I am also deeply grateful to the primary school my boys attend, who are always willing to help, and to the school mums and dads who constantly remind me to reach out whenever support is needed. 

Finally, thank you to everyone who takes photos and videos of me at events and kindly sends them to my inbox so I can share them online. Your support truly means a great deal.
