A group of Ashby School pupils have been told to isolate for 14 days following a positive testing last week.

It has emerged that head teacher Geoff Staniforth sent letters to parents explaining the situation.

The letter at first suggests 'several members of the school community' had tested positive.

But it goes on to say that a small number of students had been in contact with 'the individual'.

Mt Staniforth allayed any fears parents may have had and said the school remained open.

He said that the parents of the students who had been in contact with the person or people who have tested positive had received a letter saying their children must isolate for 14 days.

The letter, which was posted on the Ashby School website last Monday, reads: "We have been made aware of several members of our school community who have tested positive for COVID 19.

"We know that you may find this concerning, but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child.

"Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

"The parents of the small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."
