A new specialist independent school has officially launched in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, offering highly personalised education for children with special educational needs.

Huntingdon House School, located in a beautifully restored historic building in the town centre, will provide places for up to thirty students aged 10 to 16.

The school specialises in supporting children with a range of needs including autism, social communication differences, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, sensory processing differences, and associated learning difficulties. Places are funded by Local Authorities.

Designed as a calm, nurturing and highly structured setting, the school offers an environment where children who have struggled in previous settings can rebuild confidence, reconnect with learning, and make meaningful progress.

The school has been founded by Rebecca Lewis, proprietor and long-standing local education professional.

Rebecca is also the owner of Elite Tuition Group, a well-established business of 15 years that provides academic tuition from Primary to GCSE and operates a successful alternative provision. Elite Tuition Group and its services will continue alongside the new school.

Rebecca Lewis said the opening marks a significant milestone for specialist education in the area: "Huntingdon House School has been a long term vision, and seeing it open its doors is incredibly exciting. We wanted to create a place where children with additional needs feel safe, understood and supported every day. Ashby has been home to my education businesses for many years, and this new school allows us to offer something truly life-changing for local families."

Day-to-day leadership is overseen by Headteacher Cheryl Power, who has played a key role in designing the school's curriculum, SEND policies and therapeutic model.

Cheryl Power said: "Our approach is entirely child centred. With small class sizes, specialist staff and a curriculum built around each pupil's strengths and needs, we can provide an education that helps every young person to flourish—academically, socially and emotionally."

The opening of Huntingdon House School increases the availability of specialist SEND provision across Leicestershire and surrounding areas, supporting families who often wait years for suitable placements.

The school is now recruiting for a Teaching and Learning Support Team, for further information please contact the school office at [email protected] or call 01530 564114.

An Open event is scheduled for the 28th of January 2026 between 18.30pm & 20.00pm where families can meet key staff and find out more about the School and the admissions process.
