Sixth Formers at Ashby School have collected almost 50 bags of donations for the town's Food Bank, weighing in at a staggering 260.5kg – the equivalent of 130 large Christmas cakes or 1.5 reindeer.

When Sixth Form staff suggested supporting Ashby Food Bank, they were overwhelmed by the positive response from students.

The school has since handed over close to 50 carrier bags of non-perishable goods and groceries to the food bank.

Vikki Rundle-Brown, Director of Post-16 Education, said: "Ashby School has always been proud to be part of the local community.

"That's why we're so happy to support the vital work done by the town's food bank to help local families in need, particularly at the end of what has been a very difficult year for many people.

"We were overwhelmed by the volume of donations from students and very proud of them for rising to the challenge."

This year, Sixth Formers have also supported The Samaritan's Purse 'Operation Christmas Child' appeal by filling 23 shoeboxes with gifts for needy children overseas.
