Ashby councillors have voiced more concerns over the development of a 66-unit care home planned for Moira - after the second phase was put forward this week.

One described it as 'a carbuncle in the forest'.

The complex, at Willow Farm, is planned to be built close to the junction of Ashby Road and Blackfordby Lane and was originally given outline planning permission in 2018 after a 2015 application.

Revised plans, including a three-storey building next to the road, were submitted to Ashby de la Zouch Town Council in March, prompting a number of objections from members of the planning committee Councillors throw out three storey plan for Moira care home.

But when the next phase of the development was presented to councillors on Monday, they had similar fears about the appearance of the buildings.

Cllr Graham Allman said: "It's outrageous, a carbuncle in the forest, I've never seen anything quite as bad as this.

"This is the National Forest, this application is so overbearing.

"You're actually a matter of yards here from the point marking the centre of the National Forest.

"Surely a designer can come up with a better scheme than this, for goodness sake."

Cllr Geraint Jones added: "The biggest problem here is the lack of imagination.

"We need something that stands out."

Cllr David Bigby says little has changed since the committee last met to assess the plans.

He said: "It's a continuation of what we saw last time.

"The objections we made to Phase One, should stand when it comes to Phase Two.

"The only difference is that they have added some additional parking. But I think we should repeat our previous objection."

Cllr Mary Tuckey added: "This area is particularly beautiful so the building should be in sympathy with the surroundings."
