The A511 Ashby By-Pass has been closed this morning (Wednesday) due to a serious collision.

It has been confirmed by Derbyshire Police that a pedestrian and a lorry were involved and the incident took place at around 6am - more details have yet to be released.

But Police say the road will be closed for some time.

Leicestershire Police said: "There has been a serious road traffic collision on the A511 Ashby de la Zouch by-pass.

"The road is currently closed between the island at Smisby Road and Boundary, for investigation work to be carried out.

"Please find an alternative route. Motorists are asked to avoid the area. Further updates to follow."

A Derbyshire Police post said: "The A511 Ashby Road is #closed in both directions between the Smisby Road island and the roundabout at #Boundary following a serious #collision between a lorry and a pedestrian.

"The incident occurred just before 6am and the road is likely to remain closed for some time."
