Around the World with Thomas Cook - Package Holiday Inventor
Sir John Moore Foundation
Culture
Friday 13th June

Join historian Danny Wells as he explores the life and times of the famous Melbourne entrepreneur, Thomas Cook. In an age when long distance travel was not available to everyone, Cook managed to invent the package holiday. After leaving school when he was only 10, Cook realised that there was a gap in the market when a train whooshed by him as he was walking the 10 miles to Leicester. But life was not all plain sailing....
The Sir John Moore Foundation is a beautiful building, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, and opened as a free school in 1697. Your ticket includes Danny's talk in the Hall, a glass of wine, and an optional evening tour of the museum.
The Cellar Bar is open from 6pm. The talk will start at 7pm.
