Set in the 1970s this good-natured comedy drama has an unpopular teacher (the always excellent Paul Giamatti) a rebellious student, and the school cook (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) form an unexpected odd-'couple' bond while stuck together over the Christmas break.  With funny, rueful dialogue it was nominate for 5 Oscars and Randolph won the best supporting actress BAFT.
