Work to install traffic lights at a busy junction after safety concerns has been completed.

Charley Crossroads, where Charley Road meets the B591 near Copt Oak, has been fully signalised with permanent four-way traffic lights in place after nearly three months of work.

The £400,000 project came in response to resident concerns around safety, caused by vehicles frequently failing to give way, Leicestershire County Council said.

New signage and street lighting on all four approaching roads has also been installed to help drivers at night.

Cllr Adam Tilbury, Lead Member for Highways said: "It's fantastic to see these new safety measures in place at Charley Crossroads, where reported accidents were high.

"We'd like to thank residents for their patience whilst we carried out the necessary work and look forward to the long-term benefits of this junction upgrade."

"Whilst journeys may take slightly longer at peak times, improvements will help manage traffic more effectively as volumes continue to rise," the council's statement added.
