Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has announced plans for Sunday's Remembrance Day service - and confirmed the Donisthorpe Reunion band will lead the parade.

The council says the November 12 ceremony will mark a return to pre-Covid arrangements.

A band has not been present in recent years.

Two years ago, the service was held at the Bath Grounds before returning to Market Street 12 months later.

To co-incide with Remembrance Day, The Ashby de la Zouch branch of the Royal British Legion has announced the new makeup of its Officers and Committee Members - you can read that article HERE.

A statement from the Town Council reads: "I am very pleased to report that we have, once again, being able to secure the services of the Donisthorpe Reunion Band to lead the parade and we will, therefore, be able to revert to the pre-Covid arrangements for Remembrance Sunday.

"The parade will assemble from 8.30am onwards at Ivanhoe School, North Street, Ashby de la Zouch LE65 1HX (by kind permission of the Head Teacher) and will move away promptly at 9.00am.

"A briefing meeting will take place for the leaders of all of the groups who are participating in the parade which will be conducted by the Parade Marshall, Michael Allsop, at 8.45am. This will take place in front of the school dining hall.

"Drop-off facilities and car parking will be available at the school and Ashby Leisure Centre & Lido.

"A rolling road closure will be in place from 8.45am which will mean that vehicle access to North Street will not be possible after this time.

"The route of the march will be as follows: Ivanhoe College, turn right into North Street, The Green; Turn right into Elford Street, turn left into Derby Road, turn left into Market Street, past the War Memorial, up Market Street; turn right into Lower Church Street for St.Helen's Church.

"The traditional Annual Service of Remembrance will take place at St.Helen's Church at 9.30am. In order to facilitate more efficient access to St.Helen's Church some members of the parade will be directed to enter via the South Door (closest to Manor House School) and to be seated on that side of the church.

"In addition, younger members of the parade will attend Holy Trinity Church on Kilwardby Street for an "All Age Service". This will be a more relaxed, family-friendly service and will relieve some of the pressure at St.Helen's Church which will be very crowded. Those groups attending the All Age Service at Holy Trinity will form up at the rear of the parade and break off at the end of Derby Road and proceed up Kilwardby Street to the church at that point.

"Participants at the All Age Service will re-join the parade when it re-forms on Lower Church Street at the conclusion of the church services.

"The parade will leave Lower Church Street at around 10.40am in time for the Act of Remembrance and the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.

"Those participants who wish to lay a wreath are asked to stay with their respective groups until reaching the War Memorial where you will be directed to the appropriate area.

"Please note that this year's parade and service at the War Memorial will be live streamed on social media. We would, therefore, recommend that groups and organisations make participants aware of this. Please be aware that there is about a minute's delay built into the live stream so the timings will not align with those at the War Memorial

"Mr Peter Edwards is the Poppy Appeal organiser for Ashby. Please purchase your wreaths directly from him, telephone: 07780447117."
