Craig Smith, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for North West Leicestershire, has met with Andrew Large, Chairman of Ashby RFC, to discuss plans for bolstering support for the club and enhancing sporting facilities in the town.

During the meeting,  the Leicestershire County Councillor reiterated a commitment to leveraging the power of sport in fostering opportunities for children and promoting physical and mental well-being.

Recognising the vital role that grassroots sports play in the community, he pledged to work closely with Ashby RFC and other local clubs to support their growth and prosperity.

Cllr Smith said: "Sport is a vastly underutilised tool in levelling up children's opportunities and teaching them essential life skills.

"Working with North West Leicestershire District Councillor Kenny Horn, I am determined to do whatever it takes to support Ashby RFC and other sporting initiatives in our community."

Cllr Smith reminisced about his past encounters with Ashby RFC, having played against them as a member of another local team previously.

He added: "I am committed to championing the interests of Ashby and ensuring that the community's sporting infrastructure receives the attention and support it deserves."

Last month, District Council leader, Cllr Richard Blunt,  made a pledge to improve sports and leisure facilities in Ashby at the full council meeting in Coalville.
