Moira Co-op was open as usual today (Friday) after a group of men had 'verbally abused' staff on Thursday evening.

Police were called to the Shortheath Road store when the men attemped to buy a large quantity of cigarettes.

However, when they were refused, the incident escalated with threats made to those working at the Co-op.

Management were unable to comment to Ashby Nub News today but it is understood that no staff members were hurt.

Although the shop was closed yesterday evening, it was open as normal this morning.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "Shortly after 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday 6 October) a report was received that men had verbally threatened staff inside a shop in Shortheath Road, Moira.

"It was reported the men had attempted to buy a large quantity of cigarettes but made threats when the sale was refused.

"They left the shop prior to police arriving and enquiries are continuing."
