The Lyric Rooms is hosting a special Mother's Day event this Sunday.

A very special treat awaits all mothers this Mother's Day - enjoying a delicious homemade afternoon tea with finger sandwiches and dainty cakes, served on beautiful and original vintage tea sets, and original embroidered table linen, with unlimited tea and coffee, Plus a FREE glass of Prosecco for every Mum!

Live on stage, performing power ballads from top female artists, will be local acoustic singer Jessica Clarke-Wheatley.

The Lyric Rooms also hosts a Funhouse Comedy & Curry Night this evening (Thursday).

Topping the bill is winner of Amused Moose Laugh Off at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe and runner up in The Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2016, George Lewis; who has supported Russell Kane and Tom Allen on tour. This gentle, charming, lover of language and words, a BBC TV Celebrity Mastermind winner, enchants his audience with his perceptive and rebellious hilarity.

Opening the night will be Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Glenn Moore, who has appeared on BBC TV's 'Mock the Week'. One of the best and most prolific joke writers in the country, having written for BBC's The Mash Report, Play To The Whistle, and Russell Howard's Good News. With his silly turn of phrase and smart little one-liners and funny observations, he keeps the audience hanging on to his every word.

Also appearing is plummy, funny and fiery, Diane Spencer, an award-winning comedian with a rapidly growing YouTube channel of over 10K subscribers and 1 million views. She has performed worldwide including The Laugh Factory and world famous Improv (LA), received critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and appeared on several TV programmes including Red Light Comedy Live from Amsterdam.

Completing the line-up will be rising stand-up comedian, content creator and writer, Phil Green whose quirky, offbeat style is captivating.

Compere for the night is the amiable and animated Spiky Mike.

On Friday, Legless Productions is hosting a Spoken Word and Music session on Friday at Packington Memorial Hall.

It is open for all to sing, recite or play in the cosy and intimate atmosphere of the Meeting Room in the Hall. Tea and coffee is provided.

Ashby Concert Band are giving a performance on Saturday - and will be returning to the Palace at Ibstock.

The Band will be performing a range of Broadway and West End favourites.

The event is also raising funds for the Leicestershire and Rutland Blood Bikes, who are a totally volunteer based charity supporting local health organisations in Leicestershire and Rutland as well as the local Air Ambulance. They provide free out of hours movement of blood, blood samples, human milk and other medical supplies, all year round.

Across the border into South Derbyshire, Sharpe's Pottery museum is hosting a Yours to Mine Craft Fair.

The Swadlincote-based visitor attraction has a Spring/Mother's Day market on Saturday.

It is another busy weekend at Brew in Market Street.

Tonight (Thursday), the craft beer bar has an open mic night with Warren Stanford tonight (Thursday).

On Saturday, Brew has Lebanese pop-up food in the shape of Karke.

While, the next day, the Lazy Sunday Afternoon Session comes from Fred Kershaw.
