A man in his 50s has died following a collision on the main road between Moira and Ashby yesterday (Wednesday).

Shortly after 4.30pm, officers were called to Ashby Road following a report of a two-car collision involving a purple Nissan Juke and white Ford Kuga.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the Juke, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital in Nottingham by air ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

Leicestershire Police have now confirmed that the man has since passed away.

The driver and passengers in the Kuga sustained minor injuries.

No arrests have been made.

The road was closed near to Norris Hill while emergency services attended the incident

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue also attended the incident, with police closing the road to traffic between Shellbrook and Norris Hill for several hours.

Detectives from Leicestershire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for dashcam footage following the incident.

Detective Sergeant Jon Putnam, from the SCIU, said: "We are particularly interested in dashcam footage and anyone who may have seen the Juke in the minutes leading up to the collision.

"The vehicle was travelling along Ashby Road, towards Moira, at the time of the incident.

"If you were in the area around the time of 4.30pm, please come forward if you haven't yet spoken to police and can assist with our enquiries."
