A second collision on the A42 near Ashby shut the northbound carriageway today (Tuesday).

Following Monday's incident which saw at least three vehicles crash on the southbound carriageway between Ashby and Measham, another road closure was in place just 24 hours later.

This was on the northbound carriageway between Junction 13 and 14 - Ashby and Castle Donington.

Highways East Midlands reported that a full road closure was reduced to one lane - but added there was a tailback of around two miles as a result.

It also said the delay time was around 20 minutes.

Highways East Midlands confirmed the collision was between a car and a lorry.

Initially, the road was closed as police and fire services attended the scene with Highways Traffic Officers.

Highways East Midlands then said: "The full road closure has been lifted.

"One lane (of two) remains closed for vehicle recovery/clean-up work following the earlier collision - 20 minutes delay and two miles of congestion."

Monday's incident saw the A42 southbound closed for around an hour - causing one hour delays for motorists.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said that the occupants of one car had a lucky escape as they had only just got out of their vehicle before it was 'rear-ended'.
