Police investigate report of early hours 'serious sexual assault' in Ashby during weekend

A woman has reported being the victim of a 'serious sexual assault' in the Hood Park area of Ashby.

Police cordoned off an area off North Street on Sunday morning while further investigations were conducted.

Witnesses reported seeing forensics officers at the scene - but the area was opened up again later in the day.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "Enquiries are ongoing after officers received a report of a serious sexual assault in the early hours of Sunday morning (October 6).

"A woman reported being assaulted in a park area off North Street around 4.45am.

"The area was cordoned off while officers carried out enquiries at the scene but has since been removed."

The police confirmed the woman is still receiving support following the reported incident.

Leicestershire Police added: "The victim is being supported by specialist trained officers.

"If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact 101 or report HERE, quoting crime number 24*595839."
