Police Helicopter And Dogs Called Out To Late Night Ashby Manhunt After Driver Crashes Car

Police were involved in a late night manhunt in Ashby after a driver crashed his car into the Smisby roundabout on the A511.

A helicopter and dogs were used to track the man down following the incident which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The driver was spotted speeding on Measham Road and the car was found after the collision.

But the man ran off, resulting in a search of the area, which included nearby housing estate.

When he was eventually found, he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving without a licence.

But he has since been released with no further action.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said: "At around 12.45am yesterday (May 10), officers became aware of a black VW Golf driving at speed on Measham Road in Ashby.

 

"The vehicle went out of sight and was found a short time later having collided with the Smisby roundabout.

 

"The driver had made off from the scene and assistance from the National Police Air service and the dog unit was provided to locate them. 

"A man was located nearby and arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving without a licence but he has since been released with no further action."
