Plans for a new butcher's shop in Donisthorpe have been submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council.

The proposal is for a site on land adjacent to The New Cattle Sheds and Farm House (currently under construction) on Acresford Road from Mr G. Barney.

And it is recommended that 'favourable support' is given to the scheme.

A document with the application says: "Approval has been previously granted for the relocation of the farmhouse and cattle sheds from Moira to this site, the cattle sheds are complete, and the house is currently under construction.

"The Moira site still has the Butchers shop located there adjacent to the old farmhouse."

And it adds that there is support for the move - saying a new shop would be welcomed in the village.

The council document continues: "It is believed that a Local Councillor has already spoken to an Area Planning Officer showing support for this proposal, bringing a retail amenity to this village."

"The land suits such a facility, which can provide adequate access and onsite parking. It location is on a main classified road, on the edge of the village of Donisthorpe, but independent in its own right.

"The proposal is to set the building back from the road, construct a single storey traditional building with central access from the carpark to the front.

"Disabled parking spaces are also proposed. From experience of the current butcher's shop, the customers are staggered throughout the days open, therefore is it is considered that nine parking spaces is adequate, but should more off street parking be required during busy periods like Christmas, additional parking can be made available within the farm.

"To provide such a local facility, in a village location should be both welcomed and supported, providing local jobs.

"Therefore it is recommended that the Planning Authority gives favourable support to such a scheme."
