Saturday's Streatfood Social at the Bath Grounds in Ashby has been called off.

Uncertainty over the weekend weather means organisers have reluctantly decided not to risk it being ruined by wet conditions.

Hot temperatures are forecast for today (Thursday) and Friday, but heavy rain is predicted to move in on Saturday.

That means the Streatfood organisers have cancelled the planned event and say they are 'rock bottom'.

But a July event when the event is due to return to Ashby.

A social media post on Wednesday evening said: "Saturday has (on four different apps) over a 90 per cent chance of rain, and the one we normally use states rain from 1pm into Sunday.

"That's why we can't risk it for the traders.

"For context, EVERYTHING is freshly made, prepped ready to cook and serve on Saturday.

"This means stock needs to be ordered on Tuesday for delivery Wednesday/Thursday, made ready Friday.

"However, through our pure determination to host this event Saturday we asked everyone to give us an extra 24 hours notice - every single one did which is based on their understanding of us knowing how things work.

"The forecast has since got better, then worse, then better, then loads worse... in short, our gut feel is that Saturday will actually be okay weather-wise.

The event had been planned for the Bath Grounds in Ashby de la Zouch this Saturday

"But as someone who has the outlay of stock orders, staff commitment (and staff are hard to come these days) and rely on footfall to pay the bills, what you need is honesty and understanding of your situation.

"That's why we've made this choice - an awfully hard choice and I'm sure there will be some select comments from people gutted it's not happening.

"But believe this, NO ONE is more annoyed than us.

"That's just the food. The bar needs sign-off by the council, our funfair need notifying way in advance in order to commit, the parrot charity scramble volunteers from all over the UK to ensure they deliver an experience, the toilets, waste removal, security, supply of SAFE power and safety measures mean there are a LOT of moving parts in putting these events together, so it's not just a case of "it'll rain let's not bother". The absolute last thing we want is to not go ahead.

"We're totally committed to ensuring a SAFE and enjoyable experience is had alongside the above. So this is not an easy status to write.

"Hopefully everyone understands that and we'll be there in July.

"BIG things coming we're just so sorry that you'll have to miss out on the world's best food this weekend, and that's said with absolute certainty.

"Rock bottom right now. See you in July guys, thanks again."
