North West Leicestershire District Council's Health and Wellbeing Team are making an opportunity available to organisations and community groups that want to make a difference to the physical activity of residents in the area.

They are inviting groups or organisations in the Ashby area to submit an expression of interest in co-creating a programme within their community that specifically targets inactive groups, aiming to increase their level of physical activity.

The team hope to work with around 12 groups or organisations and would like to encourage residents of all ages, especially those who are not currently physically active to get involved.

The programme will also offer advice and support to those that are successful to ensure activities are Covid-safe and allow for social distancing.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: "The health and wellbeing of residents in North West Leicestershire is really important.

"We are an active district in the heart of the National Forest and we want everyone that lives here to have the opportunity to be healthy and well.

"It is particularly important now, as we recover from Covid-19, that we support our communities to get active, especially those that haven't been able to exercise as much as they perhaps did before lockdown.

"Local community groups and organisations which have a genuine interest in improving the levels of physical activity within their communities should register their interest, which will help us to become a healthier and more active district."

Community groups interested in getting involved can fill out the online expression of interest form HERE.

The deadline for submitting the form is Monday, October 26.
