Mercedes bursts into flames on A42 near Ashby: Town's fire crew called to incident

A Mercedes car caught fire on the A42 near Ashby this evening (Wednesday).

Fire crews from Ashby, Coalville and Castle Donington were called out to the incident which happened between Junctions 13 and 12.

And firefighters needed breathing apparatus to put out the blaze.

No casualties have been reported in early reports from the scene.

A Leicestershire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: "Several calls reporting a Mercedes car on fire on the live carriageway,

"Callers confirming the vehicle is a hybrid.

"On arrival, Incident Commander confirmed the car was fully involved in fire.

"One hosereel and two breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire."
