A. 47 year old man was hit on the back of the head with baseball bat in Market Street.

Police are appealing for information and wanted to identify the man in series of photos issued today (Thursday).

The incident took place a month ago but police have only just released details.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "Officers are appealing for public help after a 47-year-old man was seriously assaulted in Ashby town centre.

"The victim was struck with a baseball bat and sustained an injury to the back of his head which required a number of stitches.

"The incident took place around 2am on Sunday, June 26, outside the Queen's Head pub in Market Street.

"Officers would like to identify and trace the man in the image."
