Staff from Fishers Solicitors in Ashby have taken part in two fundraising events in aid of the law firm's two chosen charities for this year.

Fishers are supporting the YMCA (Burton) and Multiple System Atrophy Trust, and staff raised almost £2,000 from the recent fundraisers.

The Ivanhoe Office Park firm has also held a bake sale, a fundraising tuck shop for staff and workshops as part of their efforts.

There are 1,267 miles between each of the MSA hubs from which support is given.

Fishers staff decided to walk this distance, which also happens to be the same as the distance from London to Rome.

Fifteen employees set out on the challenge using the World Walking App.

On here, they were able to track where they were, and communicate with the team to keep motivated.

They walked morning noon and night to complete the challenge and admitted it was tough.

A two-week target had been set, and they came in just half a day over, raising £1,248 in doing so.

The money raised will go a long way in supporting individuals and family members of those affected by the degenerative illness, MSA.

Each year, the YMCA hold a sleepout for people to join in and experience what it is like to be homeless.

Now in its 15th year, a team of five staff and four family members decided to take part at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton.

With the choice of covered areas, or the graveyard in the middle of town, there was no question that the stadium was the choice.

After a hot drink, lights out was 11pm and those taking part found it a difficult night's sleep.

With snorers, music, hard floors and temperatures of three degrees, it was hard for them to sleep. They were woken at 5.30am, as this is the time that homeless people will move on.

Those who slept over at the stadium were lucky enough to be able to go home to their warm beds, but for many, sleeping rough is a continuous daily struggle.

Fishers staff managed to raise £745 for the YMCA to continue their wonderful work.

If you see anyone sleeping rough, you can report it online to Street Link who will send a local organisation, such as the YMCA, to help.
