Damilola Ojuri, a local resident, has been selected to be Labour's candidate in the Ashby de la Zouch division for the 2025 County Council elections.

County Council elections are usually held on the first Thursday in May every four years.

The next County Council election will take place on May 1 next year.

Cllr Ojuri said: "I am really looking forward to May 2025 when the residents of Ashby and Blackfordby will have the chance to elect a dedicated County Councillor who is attentive to the concerns of the community and understands the challenges faced by the people of Ashby and Blackfordby."

She lives in Ashby with her husband and young family. She is an Ashby Town Councillor and currently Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Ojuri added: "Ashby and Blackfordby face many challenges.

"With the recent growth in housing and another increase of 25 per cent in properties being built at Money Hill, there are huge pressures on our services – health, education, social services and our environment. These are all areas where the County Council has a key role to play."

"We should also not forget the importance of having a vibrant community and Town Centre."

Labour has pointed out that the current County Councillor has been in office for nearly 20 years and Cllr Ojuri said: "It is definitely time for a change.

"I aim to be a responsive councillor who listens to people and takes up their concerns as there is so much that the County Council impacts."

"We can no longer tolerate neglect of pending issues in Ashby and Blackfordby that should be acted upon and resolved. If you would like to contact me, please email [email protected] "

Chris Smith, Leader of Ashby Town Council, said: "There are a huge number of issues being faced by the Town where the County Council is key.

"We desperately need an actively engaged County Councillor who will speak up for the Town."
