France's women's squad will use Ashby as their base for the upcoming Women's Euro22 being staged in England.

The French team are to use Champney's Springs - between Ashby and Measham - during the tournament which begins next month.

All of France's games will be played at Rotherham United's New York Stadium - but they have chosen Ashby as their headquarters in between games as they set their sights on winning the competition.

UEFA has today (Tuesday) confirmed the bases for each of the countries taking part.

Springs has already been given top reviews by the French squad and Les Bleues coach Corinne Deacon, who travelled to the complex with the French delegation to do some scouting ahead of the Championship.

She said: "As for the hotel complex, it has a restaurant, a spa, double rooms and a gym. 

"It will serve as a pre-warm-up before going to the games."

The squad will not need to get on a bus to go to training because a field is there for them at Springs - a few steps from the rooms.

Springs has been used regularly by professional men's teams over recent years.

But Deacon says it must be redone for the competition with officials from the French football headquarters at Claiefontaine supervising the preparations.

Daacon told Lookcharms.com: "A technician from Clairefontaine should come to see what work there is to do on the ground, but the federation will give us the means to put it in the right way.

"New York Stadium is a very open space, a warm stadium where you feel good."

England will play Austria in the opening game on July 6.

France may be playing their football in South Yorkshire, but wanted a base around an hour away.

Their first match is against Italy on July 10 and they then meet Belgium on July 14.

The final match for France will be on July 19 against Iceland.

If they win their group, they will stay at Rotherham for the quarter finals - and travel to Wigan if they finish as runners-up.
